Ericsson Acquires Telcordia


In June, Ericsson announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire privately-held Telcordia Technologies for US$1.15 billion.Telcordia started out as Bellcore, an R&D spin-off from Bell Telephone Laboratories, which was created to support the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) after the AT&T divestiture in 1984. Over the years, Telcordia has built an impressive portfolio of OSS/BSS software systems and consulting services. The company claims more than 800 customers in at least 55 countries, and is particularly strong in North America due to its long historical relationships with the “Baby Bells.” Telcordia revenues for the financial year ending January 31st were US$739 million.
