Chinese Cellular M2M Services

The benefit of recurring revenue from cumulative connection through M2M applications has struck a chord with Chinese MNOs. All three MNOs have taken notice of this lucrative opportunity for alternative revenues alongside their burgeoning mobile subscription market. This revenue stream counters what the M2M cellular module vendors are facing in terms of price pressure and commoditization. Also, with the announcements made from the twelfth economic plan, there are some key policies from the plan that would translate to potential opportunities in the M2M markets in China. This includes smart metering and telematics endeavors, as well as upcoming projects steered towards the "Internet of Things." This study discusses these market trends, analyzes cellular M2M connectivity service provider strategic responses, and forecasts cellular M2M connections and revenue growth for the period from 2010 through 2016, segmented by application and air interface standard.
