Research Analyst - Supply Chain Technologies - US/UK Office Locations

Reporting to the Principal Analyst, the Research Analyst will conduct extensive research in to the development and adoption of emerging technologies within the context of logistics, warehousing and the end-to-end supply chain. The successful candidate will use strong quantitative and qualitative research skills and their keen understanding of technology markets to digest commercial and technical trends and produce written and numerical market intelligence for the benefit of technology-focused enterprises.  

Subject Matter Focus:

In this role, the analyst will be responsible for gathering and analyzing information (written and numerical) relating to commercial trends in the supply chain and related technology markets. Areas of coverage will include:

  • Company Sales Data- Shipment and revenue figures from key technology vendors and supply chain service providers

  • The warehouse of the Future- e-commerce fulfillment, robotics, automated material handling, digital workforce technologies, wearables, augmented reality

  • Internet of Things (IoT)- Asset tracking, devices, connectivity, security, RFID, predictive maintenance

  • Industrial connectivity and 5G- Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), long-range asset tracking, short-range wireless, Real Time Location Services (RTLS), private LTE, Industrial 5G

  • Supply Chain Management software- demand planning, WMS, ERP, PLM

  • Smart Manufacturing Practices and technologies- additive manufacturing (3D printing), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), generative design, distributed manufacturing

  • Blockchain in the Supply Chain- Industry consortia, asset tracking use cases, technology platforms, cloud services, payments, security, procurement

  • Inventory Management- RFID, automated cycle counting, cloud platforms, integrated business planning

  • Last-Mile Transportation- Drone delivery, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), Freight-as-a-Service, crowd-sourced delivery, route optimization and fleet management

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

  • Systems Integration- warehouse automation, workforce productivity solutions, supply chain management

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Help develop ABI Research’s ‘Intelligent Supply Chain’ research service by producing consistent, high-quality research reports

  • Support sales and business development activities by preparing customer-specific analysis, and participating in key meetings with clients, prospects, and partners

  • Conduct research interviews with senior technology executives to stay ahead of industry trends and gain deep knowledge of technology markets, becoming a subject matter expert on supply chain technologies

  • Author research reports, research briefs, market forecasts, and articles within one or more areas of personal expertise

  • Attend trade shows and conferences to learn from other industry thought leaders and to generate research and sales leads

  • End-to-end management of research projects, including research roadmap creation, interview questionnaire design, research, writing and feedback generation

  • Working with the production team to edit and publish work and peer review the work of colleagues

  • Deliver consulting research projects on a custom basis for individual clients by taking a brief and managing the project delivery from end-to-end

  • Collaborate with other analysts to share knowledge and complete projects

  • Brief media outlets with the latest research findings and raise the profile of the ‘Intelligent Supply Chain’ service using social media

Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Proven qualitative AND quantitative research skills at a commercial level or to a high academic standard

  • Ability to succinctly compile and compose written reports detailing market trends, assumptions and competitive analysis

  • Strong numerical analysis and statistical skills

  • Ability to digest fine details and the larger picture simultaneously

  • Commercial acumen and a broad understanding of the supply chain market, including familiarity with major players, competitive dynamics, and core business issues

  • Knowledge of and/or interest in commercial technologies, including development, adoption and go-to market strategies

  • Phone interview skills and strong verbal communication, including presentation skills

  • Strong attention to detail with focus on quality control

  • Customer-centric, open-minded approach to solving business and analytical problems

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including statistical modelling

    Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a technology or supply chain-focused role

  • Experience in product management, market analysis, new product development, product marketing, market research, or industry analysis

  • Consulting or client-facing project experience
