Is Vodafone a Leader in Technology Innovation?

Vodafone is the second largest mobile operator in the world with more than half a billion subscribers, bested only by China Mobile. As of November 2017, it operates almost 30 networks around the world that are fully owned and offer mobile, fixed, and content services. Vodafone is also responsible for several network innovations that are now standard in the market through its cooperation with vendors, such as the SingleRAN concept that was created in a joint innovation lab with Huawei. Vodafone has also been praised for business innovation through new tariffs that have now improved its top line in saturated and highly competitive markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Soft Materials Bring a Human Touch to Robotics

Soft robotics has many promising applications. It brings a list of capabilities absent in most other robotics, including dexterity, flexibility and safe physical interaction with humans. Soft robotics refers to robotics that are comprised of either soft materials, soft joints or soft layers over hard armatures. ABI Research, a market-foresight advisory firm providing strategic guidance on the most compelling transformative technologies, has identified and created a detailed analysis of the largely uncovered subset of the robotics industry.

The Top Eight Questions End-Users Need to Ask to Build a Successful IoT GTM Strategy

As 61% of enterprises have already deployed an IoT solution, or are planning to in the next year, it is essential that both enterprises and providers ask the right questions early to maximize their IoT ROI. ABI Research, a market-foresight advisory firm providing strategic guidance on the most compelling transformative technologies, has identified eight questions that innovative companies need to ask to turn their IoT visions into reality.

Transformative Technologies

Transformative technologies relate to the stages of innovation, a concept dating back to the late 1990s. Current innovation focuses on the business-as-usual now, while disruptive innovation centers on disrupting the status quo by phasing out established practices. Technologies in the first two stages — the traditional and temporary Internet and IT technologies — have goals of reducing costs, improving efficiencies as well as offering product improvements or service enhancements.

The third and most important stage, transformative innovation, however, emphasizes the long term. As a result, the goals of transformative technologies go much further and much larger. They are the technologies that create deep business changes, not marginal ones.

Because ABI only researches the most compelling transformative technologies, with an emphasis on operational technologies, our conclusions and recommendations literally reshape workforces, identify holes in a market, create new business models and drive new revenue streams that will ensure our customers' sustainability in the future.
