The robotics industry received record investment in 2019, totaling in at US$46 billion. According to ABI Research, a total of US$17.8 billion went to acquisitions and a further US$29 billion went into investments. He added, though, that this has resulted in a rich “laboratory type learning experience” in terms of how to take advantage of the inherent flexibility of technologies to address emergency situations and challenges linked to demand-response management of assets and services.
“This will have a lasting impact, coming out of Covid-19 during and after the drawn-out recovery period, in the form of a step change in how resilience is approached and generalised, allowing to prepare better for future calamities, a distinct silver lining on a very dark Covid-19 cloud,” he said.

Immersive technologies such as AR and VR have the potential to transform student learning in the K–12 classroom. They can help educators provide a hands-on approach to learning, accommodate students’ diverse needs and promote a sense of curiosity and wonder.
“In an ongoing quest to maintain students’ attention, new visualization and interaction tools are a natural fit,” says Eric Abbruzzese, principal analyst at ABI Research, in a press release for their “Augmented and Virtual Reality in Education” report.
Yet many schools still face barriers to adopting immersive technology, such as high hardware costs, according to the ABI report. “Head-mounted experiences provide the most immersive experiences possible but can be challenging when it comes to price and implementation,” the report notes.
