As part of a cost reduction effort, Motorola will be closing production operations in China and Brazil. Additionally, Motorola is closing its R&D efforts in South Korea in a move that Google believes will both lower costs and centralize R&D efforts for greater collaboration. ABI Research believes that these initial moves by Google to reduce Motorola’s operating expenses are not over with, and they will not stop until Motorola is gutted of all the things that made it worth the $12B Google paid for it.
