Wireless Power Moving to a Battle of Ecosystems
Market Insight
Currently, the two favored flavors of wireless-power charging are by induction and by magnetic resonance, promoted by the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP), respectively. Choosing the eventual leader in wireless charging for the mobile-device ecosystem has become much more difficult with the entrance of these two bodies. However, with players such as Samsung and Google (Motorola) hedging their bets across multiple consortiums, it is likely that for the near term, establishing one consortium to rule them all will be very unlikely.
