Backhaul Driving Small Cell M&A
Company Insight
- Published 03 Jul 2012 by Nick Marshall
Qualcomm’s acquisition of DesignArt Networks, if it goes ahead, could be the start of an attempt by Qualcomm to recapture position against Broadcom. ABI Research believes the reason behind this transaction would be DesignArt’s IP in SoCs for backhaul—one of the challenges in deploying small cells. Backhaul is an area in which Qualcomm does not have a significant marketshare; arch-rival Broadcom dominates the segment.
