Good and Bad News for Blu-ray and Ultraviolet… but More Bad than Good
Market Insight
- Published 25 Jun 2012 by Michael Inouye
Reliance on cloud services could reduce the value of physical media. Walmart’s offer to customers of the option to purchase digital (cloud stored) copies of movies they currently own on Blu-ray and DVD does not encourage the purchase of new Blu-ray movies, which is one of the intentions of UVVU. Best Buy’s offer to upgrade DVDs to Blu-ray is too limited in scope to significantly change consumer behavior.
