At CeBIT 2011 this week in Hanover, the new national ID card introduced in Germany in 2010 is gaining some unusual attention. Bundesdruckerei GmbH, a German company specialising in secure ID applications, has developed a number of interesting applications that are claimeed to improve identity security and enhance the usability of the card. These include self-service biometric data capture, private/corporate, and mobile applications. The card’s online capabilities have also been delivered so that citizens can make use of the physical card electronicly or virtually.
