In the United States, the three largest mobile operators have been vocal in their desire to shift all data applications over to 3G and even 4G (LTE and WiMAX) technology – not just laptop PC cellular connectivity but also M2M applications. Most recently, AT&T and Sprint have each struck deals with cellular embedded module vendors to provide modules for M2M application developer partners at discounted rates. AT&T is working with Ericsson, Huawei, and ZTE (the latter two being leading China-based module vendors) while Sprint has selected Fusion Wireless, an innovative new CDMA-focused module vendor based in San Diego, California.
