eCall: a Mixed Blessing for the European Embedded Telematics Industry?
- Published 18 Jan 2011 by Dominique Bonte
Consumer telematics adoption and penetration in Europe remains very limited. While BMW’s Connected Drive, Fiat’s Blue & Me Nav, and PSA’s proprietary eCall have enjoyed some measures of success, many car OEMs such as Audi/VW, Hyundai/KIA, Nissan, Renault, Toyota, Opel (GM), and Ford have remained absent in the European telematics market. While some of them have announced launches in the near future (Ford SYNC will be available in Europe in 2011), overall penetration is bound to remain low for the foreseeable future.
