RFID System Software For Business Optimization

Software Packages, Platforms and Middleware

Research Report

Real-time information is becoming a critical element for businesses across nearly all industrial markets as corporate management in every industry look for ways to optimize business processes. Software packages, systems and platforms that are able to control automatic data collection devices such as RFID readers are assuming a more prominent function as real-time data collecting projects move from simply reporting events to assuming operational control for critical processes dependent on immediate rules-based decisions.

The rapidly expanding role asked of these software products is so prevalent that ABI Research believes it is time to find a new way to describe them. Success with an RFID software product today has as much to do with other sensing and event-driven data collecting devices as it does with RFID, so referring to these products as "RFID Software" does not provide the proper context for what is included in the capabilities of a given package.
