Extending the Wireless Sports and Fitness Device market ahead of BLE
- Published 06 Aug 2010 by Jonathan Collins
The market for wireless sports and fitness monitoring devices is set to undergo significant growth, in part because of an upcoming shift to standardized RF communications in the uptake of Bluetooth Low Energy enabled devices. Even so, existing players are preparing to leverage their existing proprietary RF interfaces quickly and for two key reasons: their devices are available now and Bluetooth Low Energy devices are not, and in the meantime, the more consumers they can bring to invest and use their offerings the less likely they are to shift away from them later. Growth is set to be driven by greater functionality and extended marketing partnerships, but growth could also come from expansion into new exercise patterns.
