3DTV – A Booster Shot for the Pay-TV Market
Competition in the pay TV market is intense, so operators are always looking for new ways to increase ARPU through advanced services to their customers. TV manufacturers are promising to ramp up production of 3D capable HDTVs. Besides delivering the bigger screen, 3DTVs are ideally suited for movies and games. So far, consumers have enjoyed 3D movies at the movies – with the run-away hit Avatar, for example – and to a limited extent in home theatres. Is 3DTV programming the next opportunity for pay TV operators to attract customers who want the most advanced services?
