Ruminations and Meditations upon the Connected World 2010 Conference (Yes, the M2M show…)

In June, ABI Research’s M2M Practice Director Sam Lucero attended the “Connected World 2010” tradeshow in Chicago, Illinois, formerly known as “M2M United.” The show is a machine-to-machine industry-focused event where vendors have an opportunity to exhibit and conduct business and attendees can experience educational seminars and panels. Although the show seems in danger of being eclipsed by new M2M events co-located at the large telecom tradeshows, (e.g., Mobile World Congress and CTIA) and now has competition from M2M-specific tradeshows and application-specific events (e.g., Telematics Detroit), it remains a key US forum for the M2M industry to come together and compare notes. Several themes emerged from this year’s show: a growing shift to mainstream cellular industry player participation, the significant presence of M2M software platform providers, and strong attention to the need for comprehensive M2M standards.
