Google TV Announcement and Implications
On May 20th, 2010, Google finally announced what many of us have been anticipating for some time – an Internet TV platform with partners including Sony, Intel, and Logitech. This platform will bring the Android operating system to the TV, following a successful ramp in the smartphone category. The partners are using the term “Smart TV” to give a name to a new viewing experience in which broadcast TV, Internet, and personal content are brought together in the living room entertainment center. The concept is to bring a simple user interface and universal search to the connected TV, which so far has relied primarily on home-grown solutions. Is this the tipping point?
