MWC 2010 Round-up: ABI Research Analysts Reflect on Four Days in Barcelona
For four days in February, a team of ABI Research analysts scoured exhibits, attended seminars, and participated in panel discussions at the 2010 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, coming away with a variety of impressions, some reinforcing ABI Research’s current views, others prompting thinking along new lines. On the navigation front, Mobile World Congress was the perfect venue for carriers, handset vendors, and navigation software providers to demonstrate they are still very much alive, though machine-to-machine (M2M) stole the limelight LBS formerly enjoyed. The battle for control of mobile advertising was front and center: good news for marketers. Although MWC 2010 dedicated an entire hall to applications, the announcements about operator efforts with apps even more intriguing. Many conversations focused on the growing threat of exploding mobile data traffic and a prevailing theme was 4G – and everything related to it. Read this ABI Insight for detailed information on all these topics – and more.
