Home Automation: Most Potential Customers Want to Remotely Monitor Their Homes, Some Will Pay Between $1,000 and $5,000
Home automation technology has been on the market for more than thirty years now, yet remains a relatively niche technology. To date, this market has consisted largely of high-end custom home automation systems – of the sort we see on “MTV Cribs”, as well as, Do-It-Yourself (DIY) home automation “gadgets” for technophile hobbyists. What has been missing is the vast mainstream consumer base. In November 2008, ABI Research undertook a comprehensive end-user survey of 1,010 US consumers in order to gauge their knowledge of, and attitudes towards, home automation technology. In an earlier ABI Insight published in December 2008 we presented some of the top-line results from that survey. In this Insight we present a few additional top-line results from the survey. ABI Research will publish the full survey results in an upcoming report on the home automation market to be published in 1Q 2009.
