The Influence of Regulation and Government Priming on NGN Development
The recent announcement by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore – with regard to its move to design, build, and operate the active infrastructure for Singapore’s Next Gen NBN (National Broadband Network) – spurred thoughts about the evolution of the telecommunications industry. To support the initiative, the Singapore government will pledge S$1 billion ($731 million) in total. The purpose of this project is to keep up with the industry and to create a more competitively priced broadband network that is fully capable of offering next-generation services by the year 2015, including HD video conferencing, telemedicine, grid computing on-demand, immersive learning applications, and security.
