Survey Says: Younger Folks and Men More Likely than Older Folks and Women to Want Home Automation Technology
Home automation technology has been on the market for over 30 years, yet remains a relatively niche technology. To date, this market has consisted largely of high end custom home automation systems — the sort seen on “MTV Cribs” as well as DIY (Do-It-Yourself) gadgets for technophile hobbyists. What’s missing is a vast mainstream consumer base. In November 2008, ABI Research conducted a comprehensive end-user survey of 1,010 US consumers. The purpose: to gauge their knowledge of and attitudes towards home automation technology. Some of the results are detailed below and we’ll publish the complete data in a report on the home automation market in 1Q 2009.
