Pioneering 4G Business Models: UQ Communications (Japan)
Business models behind 4G mobile networks will need to be different from 3G and 2G networks. For 4G to really take off, ABI Research believes there has to be a novel business model driving adoption and revenue spend. There are currently two technologies vying for 4G’s crown: LTE and WiMAX. The purpose of this insight is not to evaluate the relative merits of LTE and WiMAX, as ABI Research has numerous research reports investigating LTE and WiMAX. Instead, we investigate several mobile WiMAX business models to assess the particular potential of WiMAX, along with 4G in general. In many respects, LTE network operators will utilize many of the same network and business strategies that will be deployed for mobile WiMAX. At present, it just so happens to be WiMAX that is ahead of the 4G pack.
