No Picnic for Automakers or Consumers in the New CAFE Bill
After debating multiple facets of the bill for months, Congress finally approved and President Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 on December 13, 2007. Running to 822 pages, the bill contains provisions for energy security via improved vehicle economy and increased production of biofuels, energy savings (appliances, buildings, and government), alternative energy R&D, national and international energy programs, and pool safety(!). While the whole thing is too extensive to analyze in an ABI Insight, it is worth taking a look at the energy independence and security content.
