Luxury Handsets and Their Impact on Handset Manufacturers
French fashion house Christian Dior unveiled its own handset in late May 2008 to target all global markets, except for Japan and South Korea due to technical compatibilities. By adopting a strategy that relies on outsourcing partnerships with CDM (Customized Design Manufacturers), Dior can express its design philosophy and brand image through the phone. Along with Dior, Swarovski is preparing for the launch of a mobile phone with a strong luxury image. ABI Research believes that more global brands, including luxury goods providers, will enter the mobile phone markets as time moves forward.
