IP Über Alles in Wireless Sensor Networking?
In May 2008, the ROLL (Routing over Low Power and Lossy) Working Group was formed within the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) to ensure that optimum IP routing protocols were available for wireless sensor networks as well as low power wired sensor networks. Now, ABI Research hears, albeit only partially announced in an “official” sense, about the creation of an industry organization, the IPSO (Internet Protocol for Smart Objects Alliance, to promote the use of IP in sensor networking. How does the creation of these two organizations affect the context of the overall WSN market and what are the opportunities for IP in the creation of the “Internet of Things”? We’ll try to give you some answers.
