Consolidation continues in the passive UHF RFID market, this time hitting RFID hardware. Following Checkpoint’s purchase of RFID software player OATSystems in June, RFID silicon, tag, and reader-provider Impinj, Inc announced it had acquired Intel’s RFID Reader Chip Operation on 10 July. Since the announcement, ABI Research has engaged in numerous conversations with Impinj executives as well as their partners, competitors, and other industry insiders.
