EnOcean's "Stealth Attack" in the Home Automation Market
In May 2008, at the LightFair International 2008 tradeshow held in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the architectural and commercial lighting industry, a small and relatively unknown (in the United States) German company called EnOcean launched an assault on the current crop of home automation “no-new-wires” technologies, including ZigBee, Z-Wave, LonWorks ISI, and HPCC (HomePlug Command and Control). While a new company with a new technology throwing its hat in the ring would not normally engender a large impact on a market, the specifics of the EnOcean announcement are very interesting and deserve a close look. This ABI Insight will examine EnOcean and its technology in detail, and analyze its potential impact in the home automation market.
