Agreed Standards are the Key to Incremental Growth of Commercial Telematics into ITS
ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) is an umbrella term for future road management technology that will make all travel and freight transport more efficient and easier. While ITS sometimes extends itself into rail, ship, and air transport, for most practical purposes the concept is focused around road travel. Commercial vehicle operations are a big part of this market. Commercial telematics applications are primarily focused on making operations more efficient through FMS (Fleet Management Systems). Asset tracking through GPS location determination was the first real breakthrough technology, and has been steadily upgraded with more sophisticated features to make fleet managers more effective. Computer-aided dispatch and driver monitoring features are now available from many providers.
