Despite all this multi-operator contactless payment experimentation, CUP has also developed its own solution and has begun issuing NFC MicroSD cards to end users. The CUP mobile payment solution relies on near field communications technology, but the company wants to bypass the classic chicken and the egg syndrome of building up an installed base of NFC capable handsets in the market by selling NFC capable MicroSD cards that can be slotted into SD capable handsets. Customers will be able to take advantage of mobile credit card bill payments, prepaid credit top-ups, utility bill payment, online shopping, and travel reservations.
