In May 2011, ABI Research surveyed 1,000 US adults who are involved in the decision making for energy services in their homes on their awareness of and familiarity with both hybrid cars and electric cars, and of the benefits they can provide. In addition, the respondents were asked whether they owned or would consider owning vehicles of these types, and the reasons behind their expressed preferences.
