On 1st February 2011, the BMW Group and PSA Peugeot Citroën signed an agreement to set up a 50-50 equity joint venture named BMW Peugeot Citroën Electrification. The new venture is being positioned to become a leader in development of hybrid components for front-wheel-drive small cars. Hybrid system software development is planned for the near future, with longer term products to include high-voltage energy storage, electric motors, and battery charging technology.
