This Research Brief discusses a portion of the results from two online surveys that were fielded in late June and early July (June 30-July 2) 2010, and in April of 2008. The 2010 survey had a total of 1,005 US respondents, 1,002 US respondents in 2008. This particular Research Brief focuses on connected consumer electronics in the home (including computers), and the home network. A large majority of respondents to this survey had a home network, most of which utilized Wi-Fi. Despite a large number of respondents who were unsure about the type of wireless technology employed in their home network, "N" is starting to gain traction. Computers remained the most connected devices with game consoles (due to multiplayer) the highest amongst non-computing products.
Strong interest in connected devices carried over to Internet televisions as well, although respondents' replies did not suggest a quick upgrade cycle to purchase TVs with that feature. There are however some difficulties in assessing purchase behavior with Internet televisions given the other premium features often found in Internet-ready TVs.
