Mobile Data Services More Valuable than Mobile Voice Services for 40% of Mobile Business Customers

In a December 2010 survey of 1,000 US mobile business customers, approximately 40% stated that mobile data services (web and application connectivity, text messaging, mobile email, etc.) were more important than mobile voice services for business purposes. On a per operator basis, the highest response rate came from AT&T respondents (44.7%), followed by T-Mobile (43.5%), Sprint (38.7%), and Verizon (38.6%). The operator results closely mirrored smartphone distribution of the survey respondents within each operator group. The question is: will the importance of mobile data services continue to gain on mobile voice services in step with the rise of smartphone penetration?
