The growth in home networks has been strong, leading to the desire by consumers to do more than simply share broadband Internet access among multiple computers. As the interest in moving media around the home has grown, a new breed of device has emerged: the home media server. These devices have evolved from more established device categories, most notably the personal computer, set-top box, and network attached storage. Media serving has really become more a function than a specific piece of hardware, and the line will blur even more as the market grows.
