At Mobile World Congress 2011, Nokia hyped its alliance with Microsoft so that it could compete with its more agile rivals – Apple and Google. This week, Nokia emphasized its commitment to deliver Internet service to the three billion people in developing regions who do not have mobile phones - future customers in need of affordable mobile experiences. These consumers, most without bank accounts, are looking for access to online services that offer local information about crops, health, and education - not a platform to run video or play “Angry Birds.”
