Polycom to Support TIP, Spells Broader Industry Interoperability

Polycom’s February 10th announcement supporting its UC Intelligent Core for the non-standard TIP developed by Cisco is a big step towards achieving its stated vision of promoting industry-wide interoperability. The announcement is expected to have broad implications for the telepresence industry where interoperability between closed, proprietary systems has been one of the biggest challenges to achieving pervasive adoption and growth. In fact, a fair portion of the B2B exchange service providers’ revenues comes from offering interoperability services across multi-vendor telepresence rooms.
