Cordless Phone Vendors Want a Piece of the Smartphone and Converged Device Pie

A popular assumption is that bringing mobile devices into the home – including smartphones and media tablets – will become the communications center for voice and data applications. Cordless phone technology providers and home gateway vendors, however, are not content with lying down and letting mobile products displace the opportunities for home-based fixed and portable devices. Solution providers contend that mobile devices are typically acquired for personal use, which creates a solution void when audio/video, remote control, and home automation functions controlled by those personal devices leave the home. Is there an opportunity for new devices in the home that retain fixed broadband quality while enabling new business and service models that learn from the mobile marketplace?
