Telepresence requires sophisticated networks to address the higher bandwidth requirements demanded by high-resolution conferencing systems. Also, lack of interoperability between key vendor systems also calls for expert management skills, especially when users wish to connect beyond the enterprise firewalls. Absence of telepresence interoperability among different vendors with proprietary systems has created a market opportunity for telepresence managed service providers who play the role of intermediaries in order to ensure integration between multiple vendor systems. Interoperability issues are not just restricted to telepresence systems but alsoaffect the ability to include parties not using telepresence in a session without degrading the overall user experience. As mobile videoconferencing and desktop videoconferencing enjoy wider adoption, demand for seamless, multi-modal integration across different types of endpoints and networks will increase. ABI Research believes that managed video service providers (MVSPs) having the greatest impact in this market are not only those that have developed core capabilities in managing multi-vendor equipment and providing interoperability, but also those that have substantial network assets and the reach to manage multi-point telepresence sessions with the highest levels of network availability and quality of service (QoS).
This service provider Matrix offers an unbiased rating of leading telepresence managed service providers on the basis of each company’s perceived "Innovation" and "Implementation." Although a growing number of MVSPs and large carriers are offering telepresence managed services, the focus of this service provider Matrix is on a select group of leading, highly-specialized providers who offer the broadest range of innovative services, backed by impressive application and network provisioning and management capabilities. ABI Research selected the service providers to be profiled based on interviews with industry participants -- including service providers, telepresence equipment vendors, value-added resellers, and end-users -- and the feedback received from them.
