M2M Application Development Platform Market in a State of Flux

Two trends are currently underway in the M2M industry: 1) the facilitation of easier application development by corporate customers in a shift away from third-party application development; and 2) the deployment of application development tools by technology vendors at different levels of the M2M value chain. To this end, Numerex, a provider of cellular connectivity to the M2M industry, introduced its Foundation Application Software Technology (FAST) application development platform in January 2009. The introduction of such a platform is indicative of the changes occurring in the industry. This Insight examines these trends and the impact they are having on the M2M vendor landscape.
