Another Bright Idea That You Can't Ignore

Home Depot, the world’s largest home improvement chain retailer, recently started selling 12 watt LED (light-emitting diode) light bulbs that are designed as replacements for 60 watt incandescent bulbs. Able to be used in dimmable fixtures (CFLs [compact fluorescent bulbs] currently are not, a fact I’ve proven several times in non-scientific tests in my living room), the new Philips Ambien LED bulbs sell for just under $40 (about €30). While this in an important step in our transition away from energy-wasteful incandescents, I can’t see these new bulbs flying off Home Depot’s rather ample shelves at that price.
