Jailbreaking Smartphones Made Legal

Federal regulators lifted a cloud of uncertainty when they officially declared in July that it is legal to jailbreak (unlock smartphones and rip contents off CD-ROMs) as long as no copyright law is violated. This move has caused a backlash from industry players like Apple, but is that the sound of users cheering for more choices and flexibility?
