Wireless Acquisition Puts Intel Back in the Mobile Game

Intel’s acquisition of the Infineon wireless unit will put the chipmaker back in the mobile business – again. In 2006, Intel sold its communications and application processor business to Marvell Technology Group, saying at the time that the handheld business was “not a good fit” for the company. Ironically, Infineon’s communication technology is found in both the Apple iPad and iPhone 4, the same business that Intel sold in 2006.
