What Applications Must Developers Create to Drive Value?

Although third-party application stores, such as Handango and My-Symbian.com, have been selling downloadable apps for some time, the most dominant application store is Apple’s iTunes App Store. At the end September-2009, Apple announced that an accumulated two billion apps have been downloaded. More than ninety-five thousand apps are available to fifty-five million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide with over one hundred and twenty-seven thousand developers in Apple's iPhone Developer Program. This is a remarkable success story that contains specific positive feedback loops that other smartphone makers must take heed of in order to remain competitive in this market.
