Even as the 3G chipset market still has a very long life ahead of it, the 4G chipset market is starting to take off. 4G chipsets allow for faster speeds and, more importantly, lower latency WWAN connections than 3G can provide. 4G chipsets also allow devices to have WWAN connectivity that will still work with IMT-Advanced-compliant networks in the future. The continuously expanding mobile WiMAX population coverage and the coming onslaught of LTE population coverage over the next several years will expand the opportunity for 4G chipsets in CPE, mobile devices, and M2M applications.

This study looks at all the drivers and barriers of the 4G market in general and of WiMAX and LTE specifically. Vendor profiles examine their current product offerings and activites, as well as vendor market share for 2009. Market forecasts are segmented by WiMAX and LTE, by 802.16e, 802.16m, LTE, and LTE-Advanced, and also by product types for WiMAX, LTE, and both. Chipset ASPs and revenue are included as well.
