A Rising Wind

In 2008, the US Department of Energy (DOE) released a report that considered the likelihood that the US could generate as much as 20% of its electrical needs from wind power by 2030. The report, “20% Wind Energy by 2030: Increasing Wind Energy’s Contribution to U.S. Electricity Supply,” concluded that the goal was achievable, but will require significant enhancement of the electrical transmission infrastructure, streamlining of the current siting and permitting processes, improvement of the wind turbines themselves, and greater US wind turbine manufacturing capacity.
