Consumers and business computing users increasingly need instantaneous access to the Internet and to multimedia content. “What was that website URL?” “I’ll pull up my presentation and show you our strategy.” “I have twenty minutes to watch that TV show I missed last night.” Waiting for the desktop or laptop computer to boot and become usable can be an agonizing few minutes if others are waiting or if time is limited. A newer class of mobile computing devices—the netbook—is becoming a popular way to address these immediate needs for communication and entertainment access.
