Conditional Access Systems (CAS) and Digital rights management (DRM) technologies provide content protection (copy prevention) and revenue protection (blocking access to unauthorized users) for video content. The CAS market is changing slowly based on downloadable and renewable CAS technologies and DVB standardization, notably simulcrypt. The DRM market is maturing and moving from a PC and traditional telco IPTV focus to look at content delivery to connected TVs and multiscreen devices (tablets, smartphones). This report discusses the current environment surrounding operator-CAS vendor ownership relationships, middleware and CAS pairing, CableCARD and AllVid, DVB simulcrypt and its business implications, cardless, downloadable CAS and associated business models, DRM systems, and security integration. It covers the role (and unique treatment) of the DTA in North American cable systems, adaptive bitrate streaming, and delivery of advanced content including VOD, advertising, applications and Internet content. CAS systems are forecast for four platforms -- cable, satellite, telco TV (IPTV) and digital terrestrial (DTT) systems. Revenue forecasts are segmented by platform for North America, Latin America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific and Middle East and Africa. Vendor market shares are segmented by platform for (a) Europe, Middle East and Africa, (b) North America, (c) Latin America, and (d) Asia-Pacific. DRM revenues are segmented by the seven regions, but not broken out by platform.
