As broadband (and by association home networking) footprints expand, the opportunities for home networking grow in kind. This includes a range of consumer electronic devices. Service providers have also started to embrace this trend and whether for cost savings (e.g. networked PVRs and thin clients) or additional services/features (e.g. over-the-top content and VOD), networking and hybrid set-top boxes are entering the hardware roadmaps.

Adoption and implementation however have been relatively operator-specific, limiting the ability to formulate general trends. In general however, MoCA seems to be gaining traction in North America (HomePNA has had some success as well, more on the telco side) while Wi-Fi and Powerline have had more success in Europe (mostly IPTV). Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America represent a wider range of opportunities for the various networking technologies given the lack of established deployments.
