CES Wrap Up
Consumer Electronics, Digital Media, Home Networking and Mobile Content
The Consumer Electronics Show 2007 was all about “content everywhere.” The continued emergence of connected entertainment devices and the push to remove boundaries for content were two major themes that were nearly constant across all the major announcements. Wi-Fi and other local area connectivity seemed to find its way into more and more entertainment devices, and we saw the continued migration of mobile handsets from being communication devices to full-fledged entertainment platforms. Content players continued to closely align themselves with consumer platform companies, and existing platforms such as gaming consoles and PCs saw new models for delivery of content be it over-the-top Internet video delivery or expansion of pay TV to these platforms. This Research Brief examines many of the major announcements across the hardware, connectivity and content spaces, and presents ABI Research’s analysis of the significance of these, now that 2007 is well under way.
