| Mobile WiMAX Equipment Vendor Matrix
South Korean service providers and some relatively small mobile WiMAX service providers have built networks around the world, while expansion of those networks and newer large-scale networks are being built. As this market is just getting started, mobile WiMAX vendors are positioning themselves to take advantage of larger rollouts that are about to occur over the next few years. Early work on WiBro has given Samsung a time advantage; and Samsung, Motorola, and Nokia Siemens Networks are looking ahead to larger buildouts for Sprint. ABI Research looked at the criteria for innovation and implementation to rate mobile WiMAX equipment vendors' positions in the market. By no means will this remain static: from time-to-time ABI Research will recalculate companies' positions.

The RMS method, in comparison with a straight summation or average of individual innovation and implementation values, rewards companies for standout performance. For example, using this method a company with an innovation score of 9 and an implementation score of 1 would score considerably higher than a company with a score of 5 in both areas, despite the mean score being the same. ABI Research believes this is appropriate as the goal of these matrices is to highlight those companies that stand out from the others. |
